Plan-de-la-Tour is a village and commune in the Var département of southeastern France. It is a quiet, small village, that is perhaps best known because Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis are part-time residents.
Creation of Plan de la Tour Isolated by the difficulties related to find a relief and also by insecurity which hit the shores of the Sea, the current Valley Préconil, formerly known as the Val d'Avignon. has remained uninhabited for a long time or shortly inhabited. In the sixteenth century, in these major areas, near water points rave during the long period of drought this summer, a few houses appear to meet the demands of life agricultural, forestry and family. These houses gradually became hamlets, initially, the descendants of the same family. That was the type of society that has been perpetuated, in accordance with the traditions, and who has long expressed in a rural landscape inseparable from the company that had created.
One of these hamlets, Saint-Martin, the center of the current village, will become the chief town of fact and law, the Commonwealth, which since the sixteenth century, has set itself on common locations . In Provence, in general, the limits of Commons are those of former Lordships. That is not the case of Plan de la Tour, which consists of three districts under each under the Ancien Regime, units feudal different yet known under this name appeared at the end of the fifteenth century, and where a population which, by geography places and its way of life, a sense of solidarity in the right to administer itself. Most of this population has set in the upper valley or are the hamlets of Saint-Martin, Préconil, Vernet, Pennes, Pierrons. Prat-L'Estagnol, Valauri and Emponse. The hamlet of Saint-Martin. which were built in 1723, the Church and cemetery, foreshadows, it said, the county seat. On the eve of the Revolution, the inhabitants of these places, administratively attached to the Garde-Freinet, are remarkably structured and are "three masters in surgery and artisans of almost all species." Chroniclers the most authoritative, at the time. write that the peasants of this district are laborious and bold, active for trade and religious.
The second part of the Community is made by the High Quartier de Saint-Pierre de Miramas and covers the hamlets of Prat-Bourdin, the Plan, Bagarri and Gassine. It is pegged at Sainte-Maxime and the hamlet of Revest that perpetuates the name of this stronghold deleted during the Revolution.
The ceremonies will be the bicentenary of images. But they express the secret affinities of a physical reality with the belief in the urban hard-won freedoms, will be seen by our ancestors. This community, indeed, claimed the mere right to govern itself. But this right does he was not recognized and it exists today because it was torn, high struggle by people in places where we live.
During the XVIIIth century, these people form a community which sees itself. The crisis of emancipation behind it crystallises in the state officially Catholic at the time, around the thorny issue of the erection of a parish in St. Martin simple branch of La Moure. This attempt fails. It is taken during the Revolution, and July 11, 1790 the active citizens of Saint-Martin Plan de la Tour meet in the Church and proclaimed independent of the Guard Freinet. Historically, La Garde showed a fierce opposition to secession. An incident is significant climate in which the events took place. Ayantété The decision taken by the Executive Board of Frejus, to take an oath, in 1792 the vicar Pelloquin, serving the branch of Saint-Martin, the directors of the Guard argued that they belonged to receive the oath. What denied the people of Plan de la Tour. A bailiff was committed to signify the act. On his return he know that "people were much émeutés against the Municipality of the Garde-Freinet and that representatives of the latter could not travel safely in Saint-Martin, to receive the oath of Abbot ".
After many difficulties, the Municipality will be officially launched on May 26, 1792 by a decision of the Executive Board of Var serving in BRIGNOLES. Paradoxically, it will leave outside its boundaries of the district Plan, which gave him his name and an integral part of Sainte-Maxime, not that it will be attached later. Finally, the minutes of division and limitation of territory between the town of Plan de la Tour and the Garde-Freinet will be established that the twenty ninth day of fructidor An IV of the Republic (1796).
