Teflon, trade name for a solid, chemically inert polymer of tetrafluoroethylene (C₂F₄), F₂C--CF₂. Stable up to temperatures around 572°F; (300°C;), Teflon is used in electrical insulation, gaskets, and in making low-adhesion surfaces, e.g., for nonstick cookware.
