lincomycin,
antibiotic isolated from bacteria of the genus
Streptomyces. Similar in activity to
erythromycin, it is effective against most gram-positive organisms including staphylococci, some streptococci, and anaerobic bacteria of the genus
Clostridium (see
Gram's stain). Diarrhea and nausea are common side effects of the drug.
