History

Clever was established in the 1800s and did quite well as a town while the railroad ran by it. There was a movie theater and a hotel. Yet, after the train no longer ran there the people in town spread some moving to nearby Boaz, but most to more populated towns such as Nixa or Republic.

In recent times, Clever has developed strong links with one of the United Kingdom's greatest citizens, Michael Watson. There is speculation that the Mayor of Clever may unveil a large stature dedicated to Michael in the coming months. Artists impressions of the statue include one version where Michael is captaining his boat, the HMS Snufalafaugus II.

There are approximately 700 students in the entire school system. In March of 2006 a series of tornadoes smashed into the outer reaches of the town resulting in the loss of only a few houses with no injuries.

Clever is the birthplace of television actor Robert Mandan.

A new high school is finished.
