"Chip Away the Stone" is a song by American hard rock band Aerosmith. Written by band friend and songwriter Richie Supa, it was released in 1978 as the only single from the album Live! Bootleg. The live track was recorded at the Cal Jam 2 festival, which was staged in Ontario, California, in March of 1978. The single also included "S.O.S. (Too Bad)" from the album Get Your Wings. A promotional single was issued which also featured a studio version of the song. The single's cover art was the same as their forthcoming album Night in the Ruts, which was released in 1979. "Chip Away the Stone" peaked at #77 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The song was also included on the albums Gems in 1988 (studio promo version), Pandora's Box in 1991 (unreleased studio version) and Greatest Hits 1973–1988 in 2004. Live video is also featured on Aerosmith Video Scrapbook.
The song was a regular in Aerosmith concerts in 1978, then only occasionally played live.
Humble Pie covered the song on their 1981 album Go for the Throat.
