chicken

chicken

[chik-uhn]

A chicken is a domesticated animal that normally lives on a farm. Sometimes a city dweller lives within a district that allows the ownership of a chicken. There are different breeds of chickens, and they all look slightly different. Chickens also have different colors, including golden yellow, red highlights and even blue feathers.

Many people enjoy eating scrambled eggs for their breakfasts, and these eggs are produced by hens (female chickens). A fertile egg is an egg that can hatch into a baby chicken, so some vegetarians try to find eggs that are not fertile because they do not want to eat eggs that can turn into live chickens.

Some persons also enjoy eating the meat of chickens. Meals prepared with chicken meat, including chicken soup, baked chicken breast and fried chicken are available in many restaurants.
