Some Girls Wander by Mistake is a 1992 collection of early independent singles by the UK band The Sisters of Mercy. In Europe it was released on the band's own label Merciful Release under distribution to eastwest/Warner Music UK Ltd. Catalog and bar code numbers are 9031-76476-2 YS and 090317647623, repectively. Due to conflict between Merciful Release and Warner Music, the USA pressing of the CD (Elektra 9 61306-2, 075596130622) - which came as a limited edition containing artwork "postcards" of the early vinyl singles as well as a regular edition without those cards - have been cancelled after release.
The record includes covers of The Stooges "1969" and The Rolling Stones "Gimme Shelter," as well as extended version of original "Temple of Love". The promotional re-recorded single Temple of Love (1992), featuring Israeli vocalist Ofra Haza, preceded the album release.
The album's title comes from a Leonard Cohen song, "Teachers", from the 1967 album Songs of Leonard Cohen, which was band's live staple throughout its career. The full line is "Some girls wander by mistake / Into the mess that scalpels make". This is the same album that the Cohen song "Sisters of Mercy" is on.
