Bromatology

Bromatology

Bromatology (from Greek βρῶμα, brōma, "food"; and -λογία, -logia) is the study of food (or aliments).

Bromatology serves two main purposes:

  1. to avoid ingestion of food contaminated with toxic elements (arsenic, mercury, lead,...),
  2. to control the nutritive value of staple foods (detection of elevated water content of non-nutritive materials).
