Asking For It is the fourth track from Hole's major label debut,"Live Through This". The song is a notable track from the band as it was not released as a single, yet it made a brief, four week appearance on the Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart in early 1995, peaking at number 36. An early version surfaced years later which featured lead singer Courtney Love's husband, Kurt Cobain, performing prominent back-up vocals on the track. His vocals are still heard on the official version, but aren't as strong. The song is known for being a source for those who believe Cobain contributed to the album. The title of the song is also referenced in the band's follow-up EP, "Ask for it".
