Digital artifactual value

Digital Artifactual Value

Digital artifactual value is a preservation term that refers to the intrinsic value of an object, rather than the content of that particular object. Digital representations of physical objects have a value attributed to them that is determined by that object's suitability to serve as a surrogate for the physical object. For objects that are born-digital, the object is attributed solely with digital artifactual value, unlike objects, such as print-based books, that have artifactual value in the object (the book).
