Daraa (درعا), also Dera ("fortress", compare Dura-Europos), is a city in southwestern Syria, near the border with Jordan. It is the capital of Daraa Governorate. The city is located at about .

Daraa was the site of the alleged captue and rape of T. E. Lawrence by the Turkish governor, as described in his book Seven Pillars of Wisdom, as well as in the film Lawrence of Arabia. The incident has not been verified, however, and is among various details in Lawrence's writings that call his accuracy into question.References
