Affinity credit card scheme

An affinity credit card program is a marketing program which enables a designated organization to earn a small percentage of all transactions on the credit card. This payment is funded by the issuing bank, which typically will also pay a bonus for each new account generated by the program.

University alumni associations, professional associations, and sports teams are all popular affinity credit card partners.

MBNA was the pioneer of affinity credit card schemes, but its parent Bank of America has recently begun terminating most of its smaller affinity card programs.

A new provider of affinity Visa programs, has stepped into the breach and is enabling smaller affinity groups to market custom Visa programs to their supporters.
