Zlatopol (from Ukrainian: "Golden Field"). Small city (Shtetl) in Ukraine, located about 80 km northwest to Kirovograd, near Kiev. Zlatopol was a prosperous very rich Jewish Staedtel. There was also a gymnasium (school) for rich people in Zlatopol. The Jews of Zlatopol served in the Russian army during World War I and suffered under the pogroms of 1918-20. Those who remained in Zlatopol were murdered in August 1941. After World War II the Jews who survived in the Red Army returned to Zlatopol and buried the Jews of Zlatopol in a common grave in the old Jewish Cemetery of Zlatopol.
