He was born in Hyannis, Massachusetts, grew up in Chatham, Massachusetts and currently resides in Manhattan, New York.

He won the Transworld Skateboarding Magazine 2005 Rookie Of The Year title.

Bassett rides regular stance. He appears in the DVS shoe co. video "Skate More" and the Zoo York Skateboard Company videos City of Killers and Vicious Cycle. The latter is his own feature film (though each of the team's skaters has at least a small segment) and includes footage from the Skate Maps series. He has the closing part of the Digital Skateboarding video titled Divercity. His first sponsor was Sixteen Skateboards.
