Ottawa - Glandorf Local School District, is headquartered in eastern Putnam County, Ohio in the United States. The district serves students from the villages of Glandorf and Ottawa as well as parts of Blanchard, Greensburg, Liberty, Pleasant and Union Townships and all of Ottawa Township.

The Ottawa - Glandorf Local School District is the largest local school district in Putnam County, of which Ottawa is the county seat. The school district is located in Northwest Ohio, about one hour and fifteen minutes (65 miles or 105 km) southwest of Toledo and a little over two hours (125 miles or 201 km) southwest of Detroit.

Kevin Brinkman has been the superintendent of the school district since 2004 with a district enrollment of about 2,000 since 2000.

Mascots

The Ottawa-Glandorf High School mascot, along with the Ottawa Elementary mascot, is the Titans and the Glandorf Elementary School mascot is the Dragons. The Sts. Peter and Paul Elementary mascot is the Knights. Before merging, Ottawa High School's mascot was the Lancers.

Superintendent and School Board

Kevin Brinkman is the superintendent of the Ottawa-Glandorf Local School District and has been since the 2004-2005 school year.

On the 2002/03 ODE report card, Ottawa Elementary came in as "continuous improvement" only meeting 7 of the state's 11 indicators. Barely passing in anything on the 6th grade level, passing students only in citizenship and writing, the school didn't pass students either in 4th grade math. Glandorf Elementary was rated "effective", meeting 10 of the state's possible 11 indicators.

For students who took the Ninth Grade Proficency Test (NGPT), as 8th or 9th graders, meeting all 12 of the state indicators, the lowest scores were in the math and science areas. For students who took the test as 10th graders, lowest scores were seen in math.

2003-2004

Ottawa Elementary was the only school in the district receiving a grading lower than "excellent" on the 2003/04 ODE report card. They came in as "continuous improvement", only meeting 4 of the state's 12 indicators. The school failed students in everything besides 3rd grade reading and 4th/6th grade writing. Glandorf Elementary met all 12 indicators, passing students in everything with 100% ratings on 6th grade citizenship and writing.

Ottawa-Glandorf High School received an "excellent" rating, scoring high on the reading (99.3%) and writing (98.7%) sections of the NGPT.

The district was rated "effective", only meeting 15 of the state's possible 18 indicators.

2004-2005

Ottawa Elementary was the only school in the district to come in as "effective" on the 2004/05 ODE report card, only meeting 13 out of the state's 17 indicators. The school failed students in 6th grade reading, math and science, as well as 7th grade math. Glandorf Elementary passed students in everything meeting all 17 of the state's indicators, while passing a much higher 6th grade reading score at 98% compared to Ottawa Elementary's 67.3%.

Ottawa-Glandorf High School received exceptional ratings on the OGT tests, with a reading score of nearly 99% (98.8%).

2005-2006

Ottawa-Glandorf was designated "excellent", the highest rating given by the Ohio Department of Education, on the 2005/06 ODE report card. The graduation rate this school year was 100.00 percent compared to 94.90 percent in 2004/05.

Ottawa Elementary was the only school in the district to come in as effective, not meeting standards in 7th and 5th grade math. The school barely passed students in 3rd, 5th, and 6th grade reading. On the other hand, Glandorf Elementary received exceptional ratings in 6th grade reading (96.9%), 7th grade reading (100.0%), 5th grade reading (93.1%), and 8th grade reading (96.9%).

Ottawa-Glandorf High School met all 12 indicators on the OGT tests, passing students in everything. Lowest scores were seen in science. Science score for students who took it only as 10 graders was 87.7% and students who took it as 10th and 11th graders, the score was 95.9%.

2006-2007

Ottawa-Glandorf maintained their excellent rating as a school district for the 2006/07 school year, but Ottawa Elementary came in as "effective" while Glandorf Elementary and the Ottawa-Glandorf High School came in as "excellent". The only indicator the district didn't meet was in 8th grade social studies (68.3%), meeting 29 of the possible 30 requirements.

The school report indicated that the district was at risk for improvement as Ottawa Elementary only met 11 out of a possible 19 indicators. Ottawa Elementary scored lowest in: 8th grade social studies/math, 6th & 7th grade reading, and 5th grade science/social studies. Again, Glandorf Elementary scored a much higher 6th grade reading score at 93.3% compared to Ottawa Elementary's 66.7%. Ottawa Elementary received their highest score in 4th grade writing at 93.2%.

The Ottawa-Glandorf High School received the highest score on the Ohio Graduation Tests (OGT) out of any Western Buckeye League school and obtained one of the highest scores the in the state. Students who took the test as 10th graders scored highest in math (96.9%) and writing (96.9%), while scoring lowest in science (88.1%). For students who took the test as 10th and 11th graders, highest scores were seen in reading where there was full passsage.

2007-2008

The district rated one of the lowest scores on the OGT tests in Putnam County this school year.

The school district is and remains part of the Western Buckeye League of northwestern Ohio. The three elementary schools (grades 7-8) compete within the Putnam County League as separate schools. Recent Building Changes

The Ottawa-Glandorf High School was expanded and renovated in late 2004 and early 2005. This was Phase I of construction for the district.

In early May 2008, the Ohio School Facilities Commission advised Ottawa-Glandorf schools that the funding for Phase II of their building project is forthcoming. The Ottawa-Glandorf school board has decided to proceed with the master plan approved in 2002. This plan included the construction of two new elementary buildings.

The construction of the Ottawa building will be designed for 450 students and the Glandorf building for 500 students. The Ohio School Facilities Commission supports any building with a student population over 350 to be considered operationally efficient.

The school board hopes to have a bond levy on the November ballot.
