West Wollongong is the innermost western suburb of the coastal city of
Wollongong,
New South Wales,
Australia. It is mainly residential, with public and private schools and a small commercial strip with a music store, chicken shop, electric goods store and carpet store along the
Princes Highway with several petrol stations, two restaurants, a liquor store, a chemist and a flower shop. It is the location of the Mount Keira Road turnoff from the Princes Highway, incidentally the westernmost end of Crown Street.
Most residences are single storey or two-three storey units. One notable exception is the circular aged housing facility, a prominent sight, the highest building west of Wollongong in the plain, Diment Towers. It is, contrary to its name, a single tower with a base rather than multiple units. Diment Towers is just southwest of Wollongong Hospital.
