Welsh is a town in Jefferson Davis Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 3,380 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Jennings Micropolitan Statistical Area.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 6.3 square miles (16.4 km²), of which, 6.2 square miles (16.1 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.3 km²) of it (1.89%) is water.
There were 1,246 households out of which 37.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.5% were married couples living together, 14.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.3% were non-families. 25.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was 3.17.
In the town the population was spread out with 28.4% under the age of 18, 9.7% from 18 to 24, 25.9% from 25 to 44, 20.1% from 45 to 64, and 15.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 91.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 81.9 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $26,838, and the median income for a family was $33,600. Males had a median income of $29,760 versus $18,621 for females. The per capita income for the town was $13,538. About 16.3% of families and 21.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 26.4% of those under age 18 and 22.3% of those age 65 or over.
