Francisco Waldir Pires de Sousa (Acajutiba, October 21, 1926) is a politician of Brazil. He is the former Minister of Defence for President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, fired due to gross incompetence and inaction during Brazil's aviation crisis of 2006-2007.. At the time of the crisis, he was accused by some in Brazil of nearing senility, as he seemed unable to appropriately respond to the crisis, or even be aware of it. He was replaced by Former Supreme Court President Nelson Jobim.
