The ventrobasal complex
is a relay nucleus of the thalamus
of the human brain.
The ventrobasal complex receives sensory input from the medial lemniscus
(originating in the medulla), from spinothalamic tracts
, and from the trigeminal nerve
. It subsequently relays the inputs to the primary sensory (somesthetic) area of the cerebral cortex
. Synchronously, it keeps distinguishing sensory inputs from deep sensory receptors from cutaneous ones..
