Long a Baltimore-based firm, in 1999 Venable merged with Washington, D.C. based Tucker Flyer. It began to actively seek out and win mandates from companies with government contracts as well as emerging enterprises in the Northern Virginia's Dulles Technology Corridor. Venable secured a launch in New York City in 2005 through the acquisition of litigation boutique Heard & O'Toole and Los Angeles in 2006 with the acquisition of Whitwell Jacoby Emhoff LLP and Gorry, Meyer & Rudd LLP.
