The three climbers and Velvet had toppled off a ledge descending from Mount Hood at about 8,300 feet during a storm, separating them from five other members of the party. The five were able to call by cell phone to report the accident, and the three who had fallen activated Mountain Locator Units to let searchers know their position. Due to worsening conditions, they were forced to spend the night on the mountain. Velvet spent the night going from person to person to ensure they kept warm as they huddled under sleeping bags and a tarp, and the climbers were rescued on Monday, February 19.
