Valmet Automotive

Valmet Automotive (former Saab-Valmet) is a Finnish car maker. The majority of company is owned by Metso (former Valmet). Valmet Automotive is a brand-independent contract manufacturer of specialty motor cars.


Currently Valmet Automotive manufactures Porsche Boxsters since 1997 and Porsche Caymans since 2005. The assembly contract will come to an end in 2012.

Valmet Automotive announced July 15, 2008 the assembly contract with Fisker Automotive. The Company will start manufacture Fisker Karma plug-in hybrid sports sedans in 2009.


Saab-Valmet was established in 1968 as a joint venture of the Valmet and Saab-Scania. The automotive plant was placed in Uusikaupunki, Finland. Since 1992 the company was owned by Valmet alone, and in 1995 it was renamed as Valmet Automotive. Since the merger of Rauma and Valmet in 1999 the owner is Metso.
