The
Milwaukee Panthers men's basketball team is a
NCAA Division I college basketball team competing in the
Horizon League for the
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The current head coach is
Rob Jeter.
The Panthers have seen huge success recently, making their first NCAA sweet sixteen appearance in 2005 and the second round in 2006. They have also won three straight conference titles from 2003-2006, with that they have won three conference tournament titles in 2003, 2005, 2006.
History
Milwaukee men's basketball was founded in 1896 and was affliated with the IAAUS/NCAA from 1906-37 and NCAA College Division from 1937-1973 before it moved to NCAA Division 1 in
1973. It moved back to NCAA Division 3 in
1980. Between
1985 and
1987, Milwaukee Men's Basketball competed in
National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. In
1987, it moved to NCAA Division 2. Since
1990, Milwaukee Men's Basketball has been competing in NCAA Division 1. It made its first
Sweet Sixteen appearance in
2005 and its second consecutive second round appearance in 2006. UW-Milwaukee has also won three conference tournament titles, in
2003,
2005,
2006.

The NCAA began seeding the tournament with the 1979 edition.
The UWM Panthers were ranked for the first time after their sweet sixteen run in 2005. They were also ranked 8th in the nation in 1989 for
Division II.
