Lost And Found is a Christian rock band from the United States. They are originally from Niagara Falls, New York, although they have lived in many locations throughout the United States. While happy to wear the title, Lost And Found never sought to be labeled as a "Christian band."
The style of their music is called speedwood; a genre or subgenre of their own creation, also referred to as acoustic thrash. The band consists of two members. Michael D. Bridges plays guitar and George R. Baum plays piano, recorder, drums, and occasionally the slinky. Bridges and Baum are also the owners of their own independent record label, Limb Records.
Their song "Lions" is one of their most popular, and won the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. Other listener favorites include "Multiply" "Baby," "Opener" and "Slide Girl."
Lost And Found has been playing since 1986. Their first big tour was made cross-country on bicycles with no support vehicle. They rode over 8,000 miles and stayed in over 300 different homes while performing at schools, camps, and churches. They are especially well-known among Lutherans and other denominational youth groups. All of their songs are registered with CCLI enabling any CCLI holder to reproduce their songs in any form.
While it is hard to place speedwood into any musical category, the band describes the genre as the intersection between John Denver and The Ramones. They say that it is a relatively deserted intersection, and Lost And Found is really the only band at that intersection.
Most people, while they do like the music, are not dedicated followers of the band just because of the music. It has often been said that you need to see a live concert to really "get it" and it seems to be true. People tend to become dedicated listeners when they get to be in the interaction of a concert which is more like a gathering of friends.
Baum and Bridges are well known for their on stage banter, jokes, spiels, and in-jokes between themselves during a concert, the latter of which are not usually explained and tend to entertain the people watching a concert. Also, jokes arise in certain concerts, giving a feeling of connection to people who attended that concert and may extend years past the concert date.
Concertgoers are often known to bring along a Slinky. The band explains that there was an empty space in the song "Lions" and they wanted a certain sound at a certain point in the song, and that sound was attained by stretching a Slinky and then quickly collapsing it again. This has evolved to audience members holding up their Slinkies at the appropriate time and shouting "SLINKY!" while Baum actually plays the Slinky.
Their performances can be compared to that of The Arrogant Worms, but are obviously free from obscenity and sexual references due to their Christianity and wont to promote Christian love. Many listeners also say that they are happy to find the musical style reminds them of They Might Be Giants.
A typical concert might contain jokes about the concert venue such as tables, speakers, windows, and any other ordinary object that may look like something else. Jokes may also be about the temperature or them purposely "mishearing" what somebody says or simply twisting words to make a clean joke.
