Truth and Soul is the second
album by
alternative rock band
Fishbone, released on
September 13,
1988. In 1999, it was named by
Spin magazine as one of the most influential
alternative rock albums of all time. It features a wide array of genres, including
reggae,
soul,
funk,
ska,
folk,
R&B,
blues, and
heavy metal. The album begins with a
hard rock version of
Curtis Mayfield's
Super Fly classic "
Freddie's Dead".
The title is derived from the ad agency in Robert Downey Sr.'s film Putney Swope.
