Tinto de Madrid is a red wine grape that is grown primarily in Spain, just south of Madrid. It produces wines with high alcohol levels and is sometimes blended with Garnacha. Since the 1980's Spanish authorities have been encouraging growers to replace plantings of Tinto de Madrid with higher quality Tempranillo and Tinto Fino vines.
