Thorar is a town in Poonch District, Azad Kashmir. It is located about 18 miles from Rawalakot city, the capital of Poonch district.

Location

Thorar is in the east of Bhalgran, and is connected to Mang by a main road. Its suburbs are Tain, Bhalgran, Nar, Bosa Gala Androt and Chiraan. The literacy rate in Thorar is 89%. It is about 70 kilometres (46 miles) from Kohala, thorar is also linked to Rawalpindi, Islamabad (via the neighbouring areas of Azad Pattan and Dhalkot), and to Muzaffarabad via Kohalla. Majority of the people in Thorar belong to Sudhun tribe. People are very generous and helpful. There is One Degree College and some private colleges and schools for boys and girls.

Occupation

There are very few jobs available within Thorar, people are subsistence farmers, some who are lucky enough to find job locally work in schools or services sector in Government of Azad Kashmir, some people have their own businesses, some move to Pakistan to join Pakistan Army and other private/government services. Large number of people from Thorar are in Europe, United States and Middle East.

Sports

People of this region play volley ball, cricket football and Kabaddi. Kabaddi is a traditional game of all over hilly area of Pakistan and also in Asia. Kadaddi is a very tough game. Players of this game are having very strong body and good stamina. Because in Kashmir people are very strong and hard worker. They are daily hiking on the mountains for going one place to other.

Shopping

The town has few good bazaars where all essential commodities of life are easily available.
