Tenerani, Pietro, c.1789-1869, Italian sculptor. He studied with both Canova and Thorvaldsen. Of his many works on classical and Christian subjects, the best known include Psyche with Pandora's Box, Cupid and Venus, and Deposition from the Cross, a large relief in the Lateran, Rome. He made the tomb of Pius VIII in St. Peter's, Rome, and a statue of Bolívar for Colombia.
Pietro Tenerani (1789 — 1869) was an Italian sculptor who studied in the studios of both Antonio Canova and Bertel Thorvaldsen and carried a chaste neoclassical style into the mid-nineteenth century, specialising in pious subjects. His most prominent commission was for the tomb of Pope Pius VIII in Rome.
