Early lifeRozonda Ocelean Thomas was born February 27, 1971 in Atlanta, Georgia and graduated from B.E. Mays High School. Her father, Abdul Ali, was of Arab and East Indian descent and her mother, Ava Thomas, is of African American and Native American descent.
Personal lifeThomas, who had been raised by her mother, allowed the Sally Jessy Raphael television talk show to air footage of her meeting her father for the first time in 1996. She had a relationship with producer Dallas Austin, and they have a son named Tron, who was born June 2, 1997. However, their relationship did not last long after their son's birth. Later, she dated Usher for three years. Though their relationship ended, they remain friends.
1992 - 2004: TLCThomas was first a dancer for Damian Dame. In 1991, she joined TLC, replacing founding member Crystal Jones, and was nicknamed "Chilli" so that the group could retain the name TLC. The group went on to sell over 45 million records worldwide; solidifying themselves as one of the best selling girl groups of all-time. In 1995 and in 2003, Chilli was voted one of People magazine's "50 Most Beautiful People". Chilli stated in an interview that if Left eye would not had died so suddenly, TLC may have recorded a couple of more albums due to girls venturing off on their own. She also stated that she and T-boz are discussing another TLC album by the surviving members.
2005 - present: Solo careerSince the hiatus of TLC, Thomas has hosted a radio show in Atlanta and has engaged in charitable activities. In 2006, she was number 90 on Maxims Hot 100. Despite rumors of having signed a four-album deal with singer/rapper Akon's label Kon Live Distribution in 2006, she later denied these reports and confirmed that she is entertaining offers from other record labels. The album will still include work by Missy Elliott as well as tracks produced by T-Pain, and Tricky. Certain tracks that were intended for the album have already been leaked on the Internet. A track titled "Gameproof," which featured her TLC band mate T-Boz, was leaked in spring 2006. On February 16, 2007, "Straight Jack," a track featuring Missy Elliott and produced by Polow da Don was leaked. None of the tracks listen will be included on the album with the except on "Glidin" which is being considered for inclusion. The song's composition is now used by Nicole Scherzinger's first single, "Whatever U Like." "Straight Jack" recently entered the Deutsche Black Chart in at #35. A track was released to the Internet in early April 2008, titled "Dumb, Dumb, Dumb" which is the new first official single. It was recently confirmed that the name of the album will be Bi-Polar' and will be out December 2008 released via her own label Tron Musik, as posted in a recent press release.
Film & televisionThomas made guest appearances on shows such as The Parkers, That 70s Show, and Strong Medicine. In 2000 she was featured in the made-for-television movies A Diva's Christmas Carol (with Vanessa L. Williams) and Love Song (with Monica), and in the film Snow Day. In 2001 she co-starred in the action film Ticker, directed by Albert Pyun ("Brain Smasher", "A Love Story" and "Cyborg"). She also played a short role in the 1997 film Hav Plenty.
