Stanislav Šesták

Stanislav Šesták (born 16 December, 1982 in Prešov) is a Slovak football (soccer) striker who currently plays for VfL Bochum and Slovakia national football team. He signed a four year contract for Bochum and transfer fee reported as €0.75 million, to replace Theofanis Gekas who left for Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

In Slovakia

Stanislav Šesták started his career at Tatran Prešov. In December 2001 he moved from to Slovakian top club ŠK Slovan Bratislava. He only played two seasons in Bratislava and then moved on to MŠK Žilina in December 2003. In the season 2005/06 Šesták was top scorer of the Slovakian competition. One year later his club MŠK Žilina won the Slovakian championship. Šesták scored 15 goals in that season and was second in the Slovakian top goalscorer list.

At VfL Bochum

German Bundesligaclub VfL Bochum had to replace its star striker Theofanis Gekas in the summer of 2007. The Bundesliga top scorer had left the club after only season. On June 7, 2007 Šesták signed a four year contract at the club. His transfer fee was reported to be 750,000 euro. In his first match, a pre-season friendly against Hajduk Split he scored immediately.

Slovakian National team

Šesták plays regularly for the Slovakian national team. His first opponent after his move to VfL Bochum was ironicallly the German national team . (1-2) He scored his first goals against San Marino on October 13, 2007.
