The
splendid lanternshark,
Etmopterus splendidus, is a
shark of the
family Dalatiidae found in the western
Pacific from
Japan,
Taiwan, and
Java, at depths of between 120 and 210 m. Its length is up to 30 cm.
The splendid lanternshark is found on the outer continental shelves and upper slopes. It feeds on squid.
Coloration is purplish-black above, and bluish-black underneath, with an additional oval dark marking near base of the caudal fin.
Reproduction is ovoviviparous.
