Space Encounters is a 1978 TV Special hosted by
the Carpenters.
Synopsis
Space Encounters begins with Karen and Richard Carpenter performing "Sweet, Sweet Smile" in the recording studio, when all of a sudden, the lights flicker uncontrollably.
John Davidson is an alien, disguised as a human, who comes to Earth to learn about music and the arts, and
Suzanne Somers is the co-pilot for their
space ship. John and the Carpenters reminisce about their old days in the garage studio (they perform "
Goofus") and about their audition (Karen sings "
Little Girl Blue"). Afterwards, they head back to the space ship, where Richard plays "Piano Picker", and Karen and Suzanne do a duet with "
Man Smart, Woman Smarter". The show ends with "
Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft" and the Space Encounters Medley (found on the CD
As Time Goes By).
