Sodium pyrosulfate

Sodium pyrosulfate is a salt obtained by the dehydration of Sodium bisulphate. This is an intermediate stage in the preparation of Sulfur trioxide.


Properties of Sodium pyrosulfate :

  • Formula, Na2S2O7
  • Molecular weight, 222.12
  • Specific gravity, 2.658
  • Melting point, 400.9 oC
  • Boiling point, decomposes at 460 oC
  • Soluble in water (all Ionic Compounds Containing Na+ are soluble)
  • Crystalline form and color, translucent white crystals
