Singaporean general election, 1976

Singaporean general election, 1976

The 1976 election was the third time that Singapore's People's Action Party (PAP) party won a majority of seats to the Parliament of Singapore, having also done so in the 1968 and 1972 elections. They went on to win a fourth term in power in 1980. In 1976 PAP defeated all six opposition parties and two independent candidates, winning a total of 69 seats with 72% of the vote.

Mr Goh Chok Tong was the most prominent candidate to be introduced to Singapore politics during these elections. His Polling Agent in 1976 was Mr Chong Ah Fatt, whom he worked with in NOL.
