SETIS, the Scholarly Electronic Text and Image Service , was established by the University of Sydney Library in 1996 as a digital library platform to support and facilitate digital-based study and research. Since it was established SETIS has created the largest xml based and TEI (Text Encoding Initiative) encoded digital collection of Australian studies texts . SETIS provides and manages the full-text collections for Austlit, the resource for Australian literature

In 2006 SETIS was renamed the Sydney Electronic Text and Image Service as a foundation service of the University of Sydney Library's Sydney eScholarship initiative.

Sydney eScholarship is an innovative set of services provided by the University Library to the University of Sydney that integrates the management and curation of digital content with new forms of access and scholarly publication.

Sydney eScholarship also includes Sydney University Press , re-established as an innovative digital/print publisher. Sydney eScholarship repository , a DSpace institutional repository service Digital project analyst services to support the development of sustainable digital projects at the University of Sydney
