SIGLOST

SIGLOST

On some Unix-like platforms, SIGLOST is the signal sent to computer programs when a file lock is lost. The symbolic constant for SIGLOST is defined in the header file signal.h. Symbolic signal names are used because signal numbers can vary across platforms.

Etymology

SIG is a common prefix for signal names. LOST refers to a lost file lock.

Usage

SIGLOST is sent to a process when a file lock is lost. This may occur, for example, when an NFS server reboots and forgets about a file lock.
