Richard P. Siano was the first member of the
United States Libertarian Party to win a partisan race in the continental United States. On
December 29,
1981 he was elected to the office of
Kingwood Township Committeeman in western
Hunterdon County,
New Jersey. He received 63% of the vote and served for a three year term. The election was in fact a special election because in the general election he had finished in a tie with the
Democratic Party nominee. His job was a
Boeing 707 pilot for
TWA.
