Red Leaf Resources

Red Leaf Resources, Inc, is a developer of the EcoShale In-Capsule Process, an oil shale extraction technology. It has a headquarter in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Technology

In the Red-Leaf Resources EcoShale In-Capsule Process, a hot gas is generated by burning natural gas or pyrolysis gas. It is then circulated through oil shale rubble using a set of parallel pipes. The heat is transferred to the shale through the pipe walls rather than being injected directly into the rubble, thereby avoiding dilution of the product gas with the heating gas. The pile of oil shale rubble is enclosed by a low-cost earthen impoundment structure designed to prevent environmental contamination and to provide easy reclamation. Heat from the spent shale is recovered, enhancing the process's energy efficiency, by passing cool gas through pipes and then using it to preheat adjacent capsules.

Operations

Red Leaf Resources controls oil shale leases of about 18,000 acres on state land in Utah, which represents about 1.1 billion barrels of shale oil. The company constructs a pilot plant, which would be operational by end 2008. The planned output is up to 4,000 barrels of shale oil per day.

Management

The founder and chairman of Red Leaf Resources is Todd Dana, who is also a co-owner of the Green River Refinery. The director, president and chief executive officer is James Patten. The director and chief consulting engineer is James W. Bunger. Vice presidents are Laura Nelson (energy and environment), Vince Memmott (refining and upgrading development) and Matt Greene (corporate finance).
