The name
The municipality (originally the parish) is named after the old farm Råde (
Norse Róða), since the first church was built here. The name is identical with the word
róða f 'bar, pole, rod'. (Here referring to a long hill - the farm and the church is lying on the top of
Raet.)
Until 1921 the name was written "Raade".
Coat-of-arms
The coat-of-arms is from modern times (1980). It shows a bar/rod. (See above under the name.)
