, or just "PubCon
", is an educational conference and industry trade show targeted specifically for web professionals and website
owners. Although the conferences center piece is search engine marketing
, WebmasterWorld Conference and PubCon events are for thought leaders in search engine
and Internet marketing
professionals to gather to share best practices in the, design, development, promotion and marketing of their businesses and brands.
PubCon's roots run far deeper than the web. These really started back in the 1980s with BBS
users. Brett Tabke
, a SysOp
, running a BBS system on a Commodore 64
would often have meet-n-greets at user group
meetings. That was a common event and done by a lot of other sysops too. Bret Tabke continued this tradition when he founded the Internet forum for webmasters in 1996 called WebmasterWorld.
The first WebmasterWorld PubCon was held in London in the year 2000. Over 125 WebmasterWorld members showed up at the Cittie of Yorke Pub in London. This PubCon and the two that followed were user group meeting like events and not a real conference. The first conference style PubCon, PubCon IV was held in Boston, Massachusetts at the Wyndham Tremont Hotel Boston, Wyndham Tremont 821 Washington ST on Saturday April 26th, 2003.
The PubCon 2006 was held from November 14th to 17th at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Over 2,100 attended and the keynote speaker was Danny Sullivan
from SearchEngineWatch and Search Engine Strategies
Lee Odden describes Pubcon as "one of the best conferences for hands on search engine optimization and paid search marketing information".. Search Engine Strategies on the other hand is considered to be more corporate and for larger businesses.
