Plaxiphora australis is a very small species of chiton in the family Mopaliidae.

Distribution

This species is endemic to New Zealand's Snares Islands.

Habitat

Description

The shell is very small, more or less eroded in all examples, but evidently without strong sculpture. The head valve has very fine incised radials, and the tail valve is without mucro or sculpture.

Coloration of the girdle is reddish-brown, with a well developed spiculose fringe, and longer hair-like bristles at the sutures.
