'Tongue of Fire' (also known as 'Horto') is a cultivar of Phaseolus vulgaris. The pods are ivory white with red streaks that look like flames. Original seed was reportedly from Tierra del Fuego on the tip of South America, sent to Italy and spread through southern Europe.
The Tongue of Fire beans has a nutty flavor and is commonly used in Italian soups and stews. 1- Anual prostrate herb. 2- Leaves compound trifoleate. 3- stipules are present.
