Petrie Terrace State School

Petrie Terrace State School is a State School located in Paddington, an older suburb, which is situated two kilometres west of the Brisbane central business district, Queensland, Australia.

Petrie Terrace State School was established in 1840. Currently (2007) there are 195 students from years Prep-7, including a Special Education Unit.

History

Petrie and Sons, a company which was founded by Andrew Petrie, father of Brisbane's first Mayor (from 1859-61) John Petrie was given the contract to build the Brisbane Gaol, a task which was completed between 1858-60. The track running along the ridge behind the gaol became known as Petrie Terrace. The school opened on 23 March 1868.
