Pearlridge

Pearlridge

Pearlridge Center (renamed Pearlridge) is the second largest shopping center in Hawaii, after Ala Moana and is Hawaii's largest enclosed shopping center, located in Aiea. Opened in 1972 and expanded in 1976, the enclosed mall is split up into two separate areas (Uptown and Downtown) and overlooks historic Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial. The property includes the only monorail in Hawaii, the only emergency clinic located on mall property (Kapi'olani Medical Center at Pali Momi), an eight story office complex (Pearlridge Office Center), and Hawaii's largest watercress farm (Sumida Farm).

Complex

Pearlridge Center consists of two major shopping centers, one is Pearlridge Uptown and the other one is Pearlridge Downtown. There are also two minor strip malls, Pearlridge East and Pearlridge West. The two major shopping centers are connected by the only monorail system in Hawai‘i. Pearlridge Center primary anchor tenants include: Macy's (formerly Liberty House), Sears and Toys R Us. There are over 170 stores and restaurants with two food courts, and a movie theater complex with sixteen screens.

Skycab

One of Pearlridge's most distinctive landmarks is the Skycab, Hawaii's only monorail system. Connecting both Uptown and Downtown, it provides a unique transport and a notable focalpoint of the center. Rides cost 50 cents one way.

Sumida Farm

One other unique landmark of Pearlridge is Sumida Farm, Hawaii's largest watercress farm. Currently it is on leased on land owned by Bishop Estate.

Pearlridge Office Center

The Pearlridge Office Center is an 8-story office complex mainly housing financial and professional suites located towards Pearlridge East.

Nearby, a branch office of American Savings Bank is located opposite of Pearlridge East.

Pearlridge West

Pearlridge West hosts several stores, notably Hawaii's only Circuit City.

Stand-alone Stores

Not attached to any of the main Pearlridge buildings on either side (Ewa or Diamond Head sides) of the Kapiolani Medical Center at Pali Momi are several stand-alone stores. They are Ross, Inspiration Furniture, and Toys R Us.

Stand-alone Restaurants

Pearlridge also hosts several stand-alone restaurants in the mall property. Pearlridge West hosts Anna Miller's and Bravo Restaurant, while bordering the Sumida Farm outside of Uptown is Monterey Bay Canners. Downtown hosts Chili's, California Pizza Kitchen, Big City Diners and Sizzler.

Rival

Considered a major civic center in West O‘ahu, Pearlridge Center rivals the larger tourist destination Ala Moana Center near Waikīkī. Pearlridge Center is usually favored by local residents as it offers local tastes in merchandise and services as opposed to high-end merchandise and services provided at its close to Waikīkī counterpart.
