Parbhani

Parbhani is a city and a municipal council in Parbhani district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Parbhani earlier also known as “ Prabhavatinagar”, is a city in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra. It is the administrative headquarters of Parbhani District.

The state capital Mumbai is to the west. Parbhani is well connected by road to other major towns in Maharashtra and the neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh, which was previously a part of the Hyderabad State. Parbhani is an important railway junction on the Mumbai-Parbhani-Secunderabad and Parli-Parbhani-Bangalore lines.

Also Parbhani is known by Maratwada Agricultural University. Established in 1972, Marathwada Agricultural University (MAU) Parbhani is one of the four Agricultural universities in state of Maharashtra. The objectives of the University are: Education in agriculture & Allied Sci., Undertake Research based on regional needs and facilitate Technology transfer etc.

Parbhahi has a good history badged to it. The great saint and the reincarnation of the God Dattatraya -- Shri Shirdi SaiBaba was born in this district. The exact name of the place is Pathri - 40 km from Parbhani.

One of the 12 Jotirlinga of Lord Shiva is at Aundha Naganath, 40 km. One of the big Jain temple is at Jintur -- 40 km. The people from Parbhani always call "Jagat jarmani ani bharatat Parbhani" --- Akhil Bhartiya Bahubhashik Brahmin Sammelana


On Jan 19-21 2007 Parbhani hosted the above mentioned sammelana. This was the attempt to unite all brahmins from all over India and help the society progress. Some of the great personalities from the community were present and guided for making the society better. Near about 2 Lakhs people were present for all 3 days. It has been recorded as a milestone for the city.

Parbhani is located at . It has an average elevation of 407 metres (1335 feet).

Demographics

At the 2001 India census, Parbhani had a population of 259,170. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Parbhani has an average literacy rate of 67%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 74%, and female literacy is 59%. In Parbhani, 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.

The well-known schools are Gandhi Vidyalaya and Bal Vidya Mandir.Gandhi Vidyalaya has three branches in the city located at Gavhane Road(Main Branch), Ekata Colony and Krishi Sarathi Colony. Bal Vidya Mandir has four branches in the city. main branch, vaibhav nagar branch, nanalpeth branch and Vadgalli branch. These are the top schools in the whole Marathwada area for its educational standards and the students passing out. Many of the students passed out from here are serving the nation in various areas like government, banking, army and MNCs. These are one of the most disciplined schools from its beginning. Students are proud to be passed out from these schools.

Transport

One can travel to Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Nashik and some major cities directly by train. Parbhani is connected in 2007 by broad gauge railways to Manmad, Latur and Mudkhed, and by metre gauge railway subject to Unigauge gauge conversion to Akola.
