Paola, Italy

Paola, Italy

Paola is a town and comune in the province of Cosenza in the Calabria region of southern Italy.

Paola is the home of St. Francis of Paola and houses a Catholic sanctuary. It is also the place where Luisa Romano, a prominent musician and player of accordion in the italo-brazilian community, was born in 1939.

In the final days of WWII, while almost all the citizens of the city were hiding from the air raids by Allied bomber aeroplanes inside the Monastery of St. Francis of Paola, a iron-core 80 kg bomb fell right in the middle of the agglomeration, but didn't detonate, fact reputed as a miracle.
