Orwell is a small rural village outside Cambridge in South Cambridgeshire, England. The village has a shop and post office, primary school and a modern local pub / restaurant.
The St. Andrews Church in the centre of the village can be seen from miles around on the side of the hills, to which from Royston at night it can be seen in all its traditional glory with the lights lighting up its spectacular features.
Behind the village is also an old excavation site, named locally as 'the clunch pit'. Here, people can find wild flowers and sheep grazing, along with the spectacular views over the South Cambridgeshire and bordering Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire landscape, as the pit places you a couple hundred feet above the village below.
The village also hosts a horticultural event each summer and becomes the main 'hub' of activity on Halloween, as all the other nearing villages children gather to do their traditional 'trick or treat' rounds.
