Ocean Shores is a town in the northern half of the Byron Shire. The town is the second largest town in the shire behind Byron Bay and in front of Mullumbimby and Brunswick Heads. The population of this town is around 4,500 which excludes the suburbs of New Brighton, North Ocean Shores, South Golden Beach and Fern Beach.

Climate

Ocean Shores is around the border of Sub Tropical or Temperate climate zones. In Summer temperatures can reach over 30 degrees. In winter SW Winds from the Northern Tablelands can cool the town by up to 5 degrees. The cold winter nights sometimes bring frost and thick fog.

Geography

Ocean Shores was purposely built on large hills which looked over the Brunswick River and the South Pacific Ocean. Some of those hills nearly reach 100m high. The northern half of the town is flat and sometimes suffers from floods.

Location

Ocean Shores is closer to the Queensland capital Brisbane which is only 2hours away by the freeway , rather than the New South Wales capital Sydney which is around 10hours away by car. Ocean Shores is located in between to airports the Ballina Byron Gateway Airport and the Gold Coast International Airport were planes flies to most major Australian cities and some cities in New Zealand.
