Non-retrogradable rhythm

In music or music theory, a non-retrogradable rhythm is a pattern of note durations that is read or performed the same either forwards or backwards. The term is used most frequently used in the context of the music of Olivier Messiaen. For example, it is employed in "Liturgy of Crystal," the first movement of Messiaen's Quatour pour la fin du temps.
