Night Dreamer is an album by Wayne Shorter, recorded and released in 1964, also his first album for Blue Note. With a quintet that includes trumpeter Lee Morgan, pianist McCoy Tyner, bassist Reggie Workman and drummer Elvin Jones, Shorter performed six of his originals on this April 29^th session. It was reissued in 2005 as part of the RVG Edition series with liner notes by Nat Hentoff.

After a four album tenure with Vee-Jay records and working as a sideman to Art Blakey, Shorter signed to Blue Note. Night Dreamer is a transitional record for Shorter, signalling a departure from his early straight-forward bop recordings to more challenging compositions.
