Night Dreamer is an
album by
Wayne Shorter, recorded and released in
1964, also his first album for
Blue Note. With a quintet that includes trumpeter
Lee Morgan, pianist
McCoy Tyner, bassist
Reggie Workman and drummer
Elvin Jones, Shorter performed six of his originals on this April 29
th session. It was reissued in 2005 as part of the
RVG Edition series with liner notes by
Nat Hentoff.
After a four album tenure with Vee-Jay records and working as a sideman to Art Blakey, Shorter signed to Blue Note. Night Dreamer is a transitional record for Shorter, signalling a departure from his early straight-forward bop recordings to more challenging compositions.
